This exhibit is part of the Spike 150 celebrations that mark the 150th anniversary of the completion of the nation’s first Transcontinental Railroad on May 10, 1869. The 35 artists featured in this exhibition currently live and work in Utah, or have significant ties to Utah. The work ranges from traditional to contemporary and includes a variety of media including: painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, installation, performance, and video. The artists have created work focusing on topics such as transportation, innovation, immigrant and labor issues, impact on Indigenous communities, environmental issues, globalization, historical figures and stories, and personal heritage. This exhibition is part of a host of Spike 150 activities that aim to inspire, educate, and reflect on the legacy of the Transcontinental Railroad.
